Targeted training is different for everyone

Targeted training is planned training, the purpose of which is to achieve the individual’s own goals. The main focus consists of realistic training planning, goals and individuality. One and the same model does not fit everyone, everyone has their own strengths, weaknesses and goals, which require a targeted approach. In other words, training is always tailored to everyone’s own needs.

Individuals and goals

Often people have different goals. When we start to do something, there is a moving factor in the background that sets everything in motion. Even if two different people have the same goal, the reasons for that goal can be very different. For example, a marathon as a goal can mean new challenges and experiences for one, while for another it can mean rhythm and clarity in life and activity. Another may be aiming for a new personal best and wants to invest a lot of time in training, and perhaps make other sacrifices in life for this goal. At the same time, the other may aim for weight loss, improving physical condition, while still giving time for other things.

There are as many different goals and their reasons as there are people. Even if the training takes place only for the feeling of feeling good, even then there is a goal, namely feeling good. The first thing is to know the goals and why they are being pursued.

Things that support targeted training

When the goals and reasons are clear, we can move on to implementation. Identify your own skills, preferences and learning styles. How do you develop best, is there a certain time or method that is best for you in terms of learning? In which matters do you need help and which do you manage yourself? It’s good to write things down, this way they become concrete and you can understand everything better.

What are your strengths and weaknesses? Be honest with yourself, admitting weaknesses is not weakness. We all have weaknesses and usually, when we become aware of them we can start doing something about these things. Weakness doesn’t always necessarily mean that you are completely bad at the subject. You might realize that you are just fine, but there is also potential for better.

Targeted training takes into account individual development. Everyone has a different background, schedule and pace, so everyone progresses at their own pace. Development is also not always straightforward, sometimes there are periods when things get stuck in place or it feels like nothing is progressing. Sometimes the development is fast and often the motivation is also greater. So pay attention to the schedule that you have. Be flexible and realistic, and make intermediate goals. The schedule applies to the daily work schedule as well as the development on a larger scale.

Do things that are useful for you and for which your own resources are sufficient. Don’t compare yourself to others, even if they have the same goal, because they might have everything else differently than you. Support, feedback and encouragement on the way often help. These can also be of concrete help when looking at various influencing factors. A coach is often a good helper, if this is not possible, it is good to talk about things with someone close to you. By saying things, you also have to think about them yourself. Others can also act as motivators in bad times.
