Born to Run – Christopher McDougall
I get every runner are already read this book. I read it a few years an ago, but it’s still one of my favorite running book.
If you haven’t read it yet, here’s why you should. Born to run is the best seller book, which has found runners and non-runners all over the world.
Christopher McDougall tells his own story to an injured runner to injury free ultra runner. It goes all the way to native Mexican tribe in Mexican Copper Canyons, their running culture, nutrition and running “shoes” which are in this case thin sandals.
The book contains all history of running, danger, pure and an amazing running spirit. It’s easy and entertaining to read, it’s not full of the statistics which many running books are. Born to run is the more like a story, which definitely motivates. After the book was published there was a lot of discussion about barefoot running and minimalist running shoes, their advantages and disadvantages. You don’t need to be the barefoot runner or turn to like that after the book, but you can surely enjoy this story. Also, you don’t need to be an ultra runner, but this book truly makes appreciate them.
For me, the biggest message from this book was the running spirit. How pure it is, nowadays, we often forget that we are more focused to stare our watches, listen to music, track everything down, wearing head to toes high tech. We forget why we started, we are forgetting those first feeling of success when we managed to run several distances, hills that we climb up and when we went running because there wasn’t anything else.
